Rumor: PlayStation 4 out in 2012, to feature Kinect-style motion controls

aaaaaSources close to DigiTimes have told them that Sony is all set to start manufacturing the successor to its current home console by the end of this year, and have already set 2012 as the targeted launch date.

aaaaaThe report even suggests that Sony’s hired Taiwan-based partners Foxconn and Pegatron Technology – assemblers of the PlayStation 3 – to undertake production process of the next-gen console.

aaaaaThe console, which is reportedly going to sport Kinect-like motion control, is scheduled to be out next year, with planned shipment volume of at least 20 million units, the report concludes.

aaaaaThat’s however, still contradicts with US PlayStation boss Jack Tretton’s statements â€" the man who denied the existence of PS4 plans, and reaffirmed Sony’s 10-year cycle strategy for the PlayStation 3, explaining that the current console is “just hitting its stride”.
