Toshiba takes on Retina Display with its 367ppi LCDs

Retina Display has more pixels than your eye can distinguish already, but that’s not enough for Toshiba apparently.

At the SID 2011 event, the Japanese manufacturer showed off its new range of cellphone LCDs that packs in an impressive 367ppi (or dpi, but Toshiba insists on calling it that). The company showcased a 4″ model that featured a resolution of 1280×720. The Toshiba LCD also tops the Retina Display in the contrast department with an impressive 1,500:1 ratio.

There is no word on when or how Toshiba plans to pan out the technology. The feature set is admittedly impressive even though it would be practically indistinguishable from the Retina Display (barring the contrast ratio). Not that we are in a hurry, but we would certainly like to have the technology in our hands pretty darn soon. More the awesome’r, right?
