HTC’s official bootloader unlock will also void your warranty

Back in July we reported that HTC was to roll out unlocked bootloaders. This would allow owners to tweak and customize their devices. But now HTC has given the details that the phones will continue to be sold with locked bootloaders. But HTC will allow a web-based unlcok tool to owners. And one the terms of registering your phone and using it is that it will void your warranty.

HTC says: “Because unlocking the bootloader provides extensive control over the device and modifications may cause operation, security and experience issues new devices will continue to ship locked but will support user-initiated unlocking.”

The excitement that surrounded the HTC unlock may get diminshed by this announcement. People can already root their phones which voids their warranty. The purpose of official HTC unlocked bootloader support was that people would customize their OS without waiving off their warranty. But it now looks like HTC is not gonna let that happen.
