Google is hardly the first thing that comes to mind when someone thinks “Games”. But apparently, Google does intend to enter the gamer space. Neowin reports (via The Edge) that Google might add gamepad support to its Google Chrome browser, as indicated by Google developer advocate Paul Kinlan during a gaming development conference in London this week.
The support will be added before the second quarter of 2012. In addition to gamepad support, Chrome will also be supporting microphones and cameras. Furthermore, Chrome will also have WebRTC, an open source video chat chat program.
It is quite interesting to see Google being invested in games. Despite the fact that Android devices support games, it is Apple’s iOS that is usually credited with pioneering mobile phone gaming. and when it comes to computer gaming, Microsoft’s Windows OS reigns supreme. So does this mean that we will see further support for games from Google in the near future? Hopefully.
