A new ad product from Twitter, entitled “Promoted Tweets to Followers” is set to launch eary next month. The product will enable marketers to display ads directly in front of users that promote particuar brands when they first log in to their Twitter page via Twitter.com The new ad product, as reported in CNET, comes following the poor performance of their “promoted tweets” ads which only appeared when users searched for particular keywords. This, of course, presented a fundemental problem as twitter users search as much or in an ideal form to provide a reliable revenue stream. The new ads are said to be heavily regulated though with twitter announcing that it will limit the number of promoted tweets users see and will tweak that number as it gauges consumer reaction. No word yet on how this will affect twitter users who utilize third-party twitter clients.
