It has happened to me many a times that I find some very good looking image that I may want to use as my wallpaper but either the image had some text added over it by some website or reduced to small size; and I wanted to track the original image. Google images is a great search tool but too bad it takes only text input so you cannot really tell it what exact image you want. This is just one of situations where Tineye’s reverse image search comes in handy. You can upload an image to it or provide a link of existing image on internet and it will search the internet for alternate sources of that image to tell you where alternate or original version of same image are available.
This comes in handy when you want to find out large sizes of same image, or find original photographer / digital artist behind the image, website source of any image, to find information sources behind any paparazzi photo you received, find full image from a cropped photo you found, find wallpaper from a snap you took of someone’s desktop or where your own original art work is being used around the internet. The usage can vary based on your requirement, but in the end its a very handy online service.
TinEye also provides extensions for Firefox and Chrome to add the reverse image search capability to your context menu. Just install the extension and anytime browsing any site, right click on any image and call TinEye image search to find similar images.
