For those who plan on buying a mini displayport-to-HDMI cable to connect your Macbook to your HDTV, the time for procastination is over. Production of the cables will soon be stopped. The group behind HDMI technology, in a report featured in Engadget, has deemed that the cables do not meet the necessary requirements and therefore can not be tested or licensed for compatibility. What requirements you ask? The cables have to have a male HDMI plug on each end. This would mean that only a dongle with an all-female pairing of Mini DisplayPort and HDMI would be available to get the job done. At least until the latest batch of black market cables hit’s the market.
