RIM Looking To Take Advantage Of Adobe’s Flash Discontinuation

Adobe made a public splash after they announced the discontinuation of Flash on mobile devices, which some said marked a sign of defeat by the company. But Research in Motion, the makers of Blackberry, see green in their decision.

Some people may recall this specific tidbit of Adobe’s announcement on ZDnet:

Some of our source code licensees may opt to continue working on and releasing their own implementations. We will continue to support the current Android and PlayBook configurations with critical bug fixes and security updates.

Now on the Blackberry official blog, the CEO of QNX Dan Dodge posted:

As an Adobe source code licensee, we will continue to work on and release our own implementations, and are looking forward to including Flash 11.1 for the BlackBerry PlayBook. The strategic direction announced by Adobe today further validates RIM’s decision to launch the BlackBerry PlayBook with a full-powered and uncompromised desktop class browser supporting both Flash and HTML5.

That actually makes sense why RIM would want to capitalize on something like this and have the selling point of being the sole platform with Flash on it, but it’s going to take a lot more than this to get them out of the woes they’ve been having both in public and in drastic market share falls. Maybe the new BBX has the key to saving the company and bringing them back on top.

But then, maybe not.
