Gearbox Software and 2K Games are taking the wraps off the recently revealed "Borderlands 2" game — and they're promising it will come with lots of new weaponry to wield and loot to find, as well as an all-new cast of good guys and bad.a

As part of this week's Gamescom video game tradeshow, 2K has revealed lots of new information about the sequel to the best-selling "Borderlands" role-playing shooter.a

The game will again take players to the apocalyptic planet of Pandora. But with "Borderlands 2," players will have new characters and classes to choose from and new otherworldly locales to visit.a

One of the new classes you'll be able to choose from is the Gunzerker. And as the name implies, he's deadly with the guns and, in fact, can dual-wield any two weapons found in the game. For a look at him in action, check out this very first "Borderlands 2" teaser trailer, fresh out of Gamescom.a

Meanwhile, players will travel to Pandora's arctic tundra, grasslands and caverns where they will take on enemies such as the gorilla-like Bullymongs, vicious predatory Stalkers and the Hyperion mechanical army.a

The game will also feature an all-new story. According to 2K, that story goes a little something like this:a

You will find yourself left for dead in the frozen tundra of Pandora as you begin your quest of revenge and redemption. Expose the evil surrounding the Hyperion Corporation and take on the perpetrator of a universe-wide grand deception -- the nefarious Hyperion CEO, Handsome Jack. (Oh, also: he's stolen credit for the opening of the Vault.)a

But perhaps most important to those who dug the original game's mix of role-playing and shooting, 2K and the developers at Gearbox say the sequel will have a new gun system that will put an even more expansive array of weaponry into your digital hands.a

An entirely new take on the groundbreaking procedural system means millions upon millions of possible weapons. The variety and style of guns in 'Borderlands 2' is staggering, and you’ll see tons of new and innovative ways to engage foes on Pandora. Fire, electricity, corrosive acid, and much more will all be at your disposal as you fight your way through the Hyperion Corporation’s forces.a

Additionally, if you thought the original "Borderlands" had a whole lot of loot to uncover, 2K says "Borderlands 2" will have a whole lot more. Procedurally generated shields, grenades, alien artifacts, class mods and more are promised.a

But as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. So behold: three new screenshots from the game itself.a
