Apple may introduce superior smudge-free tech in iPhone 5

One things that Android fanboys don’t understand is that its not just about the OS or user interface, but also a large part of loving a Phone is about the actual build quality of a phone. Nokia has better and rugged build quality than other phones even though they lack in OS lack luster. Similarly Apple offers solid hardware plus with modern OS. Just holding an Apple device in hand gives that feel of better finish quality than other handsets. This is due to the fact that a lot of Apple research goes in its manufacturing and not just on iOS.

One such thing is their battle against smudges and fingerprints on screen. The iPhone 3GS and devices that came after it come with oleophobic coating but it wears off in time. But now Apple has filled a new patent for a more permanent solution.

The current Oleophobic coating is prepared by super-heating pellets of the material in a chamber with the glass. The pellets vaporize and coat the glass. But with time the Oleophobic material gets contaminated and long exposure to heat also limits its effectivness. But the new Apple patent describes a process which keeps the oleophobic ingredient in a pressurised chamber with an inert gas. The approach reduces the risk of undesirable chemical reactions between the coating and the air and would allow Apple to spray the coating directly onto the glass.

This would allow future iOS devices to reject oil for longer time than the current models. We can expect this new coating to make its debut on the upcoming iPhone 5.
