Google CEO Larry Page recently gave some impressive figures on the newly launched Google Plus project. This is the Search giants latest foray into the realm of social media, earlier attempts have been mostly unsuccessful in gaining public acceptance.
Page said that Google+ now has over 10 million users who have created profiles, and these users are sharing and receiving 1 billion items per day. According to him, one of the most popular feature of the service is Circles, which allows users to organize their Google+ contacts into groups, depending on how you know a person.
To give it perspective, Google+ has seen 10 million new users in just a couple of weeks, whcih ois already 1.3% of the 750 million on Facebook. Twitter were kind enough to give the situation even better context. Google+ said they delivered 1 billion items per day . Twiiter, on around their fifth birthday, claim 350 billion!
We have seen huge, frenzied demand for invites to the project. In the start the load this caused to the servers resulted in throttling of invites. Now, thankfully, you may freely add your friends and family to connect as you like.
We saw a similar quote from Eric Schmidt too, last week, saying millions had already signed up.
