IE 8: Winner of Browsers Wars for the month of October

Despite the amount of criticism it receives on a regular basis, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 8 remains the most used browser throughout the month of October. Internet Explorer accounts for 29& of the market share for PC Browsers, While Chrome’s latest version (14.0) is at second place with 13.65% and Mozilla Firefox’s latest (7.0) is at third place with 10.18%.

Strangely enough, IE 6 still sees use among Windows users, and still accounts for 7.49% of browser usage, with IE 9 suprassing by a relatively small margin, as it accounts for 9.79%. Microsoft is still trying hard to get rid of IE 6 due to security issues with the browser.

So what could be the reason for IE’s continued popularity, especially since it is reviled by tech “connoisseurs”? Could it be simply due to familiarity, or is there something about the browser that brings people to it?
