Microsoft Security Essentials detected Google Chrome as malware

The Zbot, or the Zeus Trojan is a malware that steals the bank account details of people and gives the info to hackers who will, undoubtedly, clear the account for their own amusement. While it is the job of an antivirus software to detect and delete such malicious programs, it’s really bad when the virus is falsely associated with a program that has nothing to do with the issue.

That’s exactly what happened when Microsoft’s Security Essentials flagged GoogleĂ‚ ChromeĂ‚ as containingĂ‚ PWS:Win32/Zbot, which resulted in the program being blocked and in many cases uninstalledĂ‚ completelyĂ‚ (including bookmarks). Late Friday night Microsoft issued an update to MSE which would fix the issue, however, those people who are already affected will have to reinstall Google Chrome.

You can see the full post on Microsoft’s Malware Protection Center Facebook page. In addition, Google also flagged their page with the above message to ensure users don’t assume that Chrome is actually a malware.
