Verizon doubling 4G data allowance

By Wilson Rothman

In what sounds like a pretty nice deal, Verizon Wireless is doubling the data allowance for 4G smartphone customers. The deal would turn a 2GB plan into a 4GB one, while keeping the price at $30. It starts Tuesday, and while it's a "limited time offer," the plan itself won't expire as long as you have a 4G phone.a

The plan does not apply to mobile hotspot devices or USB modems — nor does it apply to iPhones. Sorry, folks. New and existing 4G customers can both get the plan, the latter through the Verizon customer website, and while Verizon will stop offering it eventually, it will likely run through the holiday season. We've confirmed the details with Verizon, but we first saw it mentioned over at PCMag.a
