HTC considering to buy an OS

While Android and iOS try to compete for the crown, with WP7 sharping its nails just behind them; there maybe yet to enter another Mobile OS in the market. Many mobile manufacturers have their own OS: Samsung has Bada, Nokia has Symbian, RIM has blackberry OS, Motorola mobility is now under Google and Android is their own brand. Similarly HTC is considering to buy a mobile OS to make it their own. This will remove any licensing fees overhead as well as give their developers open boundaries for development of OS and Hardware fine tuned to work with each other.

HTC Chairwoman Cher Wang has told reporters in China that the company had “given thought” to buying a mobile OS.  The OS in consideration the most is WebOS. But they are also giving thought to MeeGo and Symbian. HTC will take its time with this decision as they don’t want to jump into something they would regret later. Even if they strike a deal in 2012. It will still take lot of time for them to implement their famous HTC Sense UI on the new platform and bring their own exclusive features to it to compete with Android OS.

This doesn’t mean that HTC will stop developing Android or WP7 handsets. Androids bring all the cash right now in the company. So, even if they launch their competitor OS it will be most probably for mid range smartphones.
