aaaaaOther gaming and technology giants including EA, Logitech, Nintendo and Sony were nominated in the 2011 Gaming Retail Vendor of the Year category.

aaaaaLaunched in 2008, the annual MERA Awards see retailers evaluate pre-nominated vendors across a spectrum of criteria including: partner engagement, channel strategy, pricing, stock management, product evolution, margin potential, channel management and partner programme.

aaaaaNilesh Khalkho, CEO at Sharaf DG, one of the retailers present at the awards said: “Kinect for Xbox 360 has generated an unprecedented amount of interest since its arrival in stores last year. Popular with all age groups, the gaming sensor offers a unique experience as it is the first hands-free gaming experience of its kind. We are not surprised to see both Xbox 360 and Kinect getting recognition for being best in class and in fact we expect the demand for the Xbox 360 platform to grow as additional 2011 titles are introduced.” Farouk Hemraj, CEO at Distree Events, organiser of the MERA 2011 Awards, said: “We would like to congratulate Microsoft for its two accolades at the Middle East Retail Academy (MERA) 2011 Awards. MERA is an independent body made up of senior executives from retailers, distributors and vendors operating in the MEA retail channel all of which are dedicated to developing this sector’s expertise. The awards have established a reputation for transparency and independence, and we are proud to recognise the great achievements that are taking place across our region in the retail sector.”

aaaaaMicrosoft’s Kinect for Xbox 360, the controller-free gaming system, has recently entered the Guinness Book of Records as the fastest-selling gaming console, selling more than 10 million units since its launch last November.
