AMD announces ultra energy effecient G-Series APUs

aaaaaAMD has announced a new APU platform, called the G-Series. The AMD APUs, in case you didn’t know already, are a combination of a CPU with a discrete GPU built into the same chip. Two new CPUs will be released: the single core T40R which has a rated TDP of on a mere 5.5watts and the dual core T40E that has TDP of 6.4watts, both of which run at 1GHz.

aaaaa

aaaaaBased on the Bobcat architecture we found in Brazos APUs, the Embedded G-Series are designed for fanless media servers, POS systems, kiosks, etc. These 64-bit x86 CPUs won’t light benchmark tests on fire, but given the extremely small rated power draw, and the fact that they’re capable of pushing some polygons (in DX 11 no less!) gives hope for the above mentioned devices with a smoother and eye-catching UI.
