“More capable” Xbox 360 to get stereoscopic 3D

aaaaaA report carried by Eurogamer suggests that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 is set to receive full stereoscopic 3D support.

aaaaaAccording to the site, much like the 3D effect in Sony’s PlayStation 3, the forthcoming application of stereo 3D for the Xbox 360 is “Full-on HDMI 1.4 stereoscopic 3D in the 1280×1470 twin 720p framebuffer configuration.”

aaaaaThis would technically meets with current PS3’s offering, while the source has claims that it’s even “more capable” than what Sony’s console is providing at this phase.

aaaaa“The machine is not only very capable,” says the source, “it’s more capable than the PlayStation 3 of doing stereo, assuming you don’t have one of the old crappy ones with the composite leads… assuming you have a HDMI Xbox.”

aaaaaCurrent games that offer 3D for the Xbox 360, such as Crysis 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops force two 720p images into the same frame buffer, but the new tech will offer each eye a “proper” 720p image.

aaaaaWhile Microsoft has issued the standard it “does not comment on rumor or speculation,” the source states that an E3 reveal of the tech is inbound next month.
