Microsoft skips 3 and releases Security Essentials 4 Beta

Microsoft’s Security Essential software actually ranks consistently high in anti-virus scores and has proved itself to probably be the best free anti-virus available right now as far as detection goes. The current version is 2.1, but looks like Microsoft is taking a big leap in the next version.

They’ve decided to forgo version 3 altogether and skip straight to MSE version 4, which you can test out right now after signing up for it with a Windows Live ID. It’s set to be a faster “protection engine” with better detection and cleanup features with particular strength against “high-impact malware infections”. Along with it comes an improved interface as well as faster performance on system resources.

Any of you guys checked it out yet?
