Google launches 10 day sale to celebrate 10bn app downloads

In celebration of 10 billion apps having being downloaded from the Android Marketplace, Google is starting a 10 day sale campaign starting today. For the next 10 days, users around the world will be able to purchase selected Android apps and games for just 10 cents (37 fils)!

On the first day of sale, four of the nine apps on sale are ‘Editor’s Choice’ with the rest of the titles also being very popular with 4 to 5 star user ratings. There are some very high profile titles, including Minecraft, for sale. It’ll be interesting to see what the next 9 days will bring.

For comparisons sake, Apple announced in October during the launch of the iPhone 4S that their App Store surpassed 18 billion downloads then. As big a lead Apple has over Google for downloaded apps, the Android system is certainly closing the gap; at a rate of 550,000 devices being activated every day. So head over to the Android Marketplace and get yourselves some great apps for cheap.
