The updated Nook for iPad app now lets Barnes & Noble customers buy magazines and newspapers, in addition to books, on their iPads.a
Among just some of the magazine choices: Popular Science, Esquire, Elle, Newsweek, Shutterbug, Consumer Reports, Food Network Magazine, Bloomberg Businessweek and The Economist, as well as newspapers including USA Today, The Washington Post and Los Angeles Times.a
A single-edition digital copy of OK! magazine, for example, costs $3.99, the same as the print edition. Rolling Stone magazine is $4.99, also the same as the print edition.a
Barnes & Noble does let you know which Nook devices and apps work with each periodical.a
When you're checking the Nook Newsstand for periodicals, make sure that the ones you're interested in will work with the iPad; some still do not, such as The New York Times and Wall Street Journal, for example. You can find that information listed on the Web page for the periodical you're checking.a
The Nook iPad app first came out at the end of May.a
"With this update, Barnes & Noble offers customers one place to read interactive, full-color magazines, over 600 interactive kids books, and over 2 million Nook books across multiple devices through their Nook Libraries," Barnes & Noble said in a press release. "At www.nooknewsstand.com or through their Nook devices, iPad owners can subscribe to any periodical with a free 14-day trial or purchase single edition copies of more than 180 full-color, interactive magazines and leading newspapers and read them through NooK for iPad.a
Note: In order to use the app, you have to sign up for a Barnes & Noble account, which you should do first at the company's website. And, your iPad must be running iOS 4.0 or later.a
