Android tablets not so famous

According to a recent statistics report by the online advertising and data analytics firm, Chitika, Android powered tablets are a miniscule part of the global mobile market.

In order to get more analysis on the Android ecosystem, Chitika observed the traffic on their network over the period of one week of all the Android users. The sample size, according to Chitika, was “hundreds of millions of impressions over a week’s time.”

As you can see, Gingerbread and Froyo, the two most recent Android updates account for 95% of the total Android market, with Honeycomb taking 1%. Android’s Honeycomb OS is the only version that’s appearing on all of the recent Android based tablets. And judging by these results it doesn’t seem likely that there are many people using it.

To add further weight to these stats, Google themselves show a 14-day analysis of Android platforms that have visited the Android Marketplace, and as of 1st December, these are the results.

Even here you can see that all the versions of Honeycomb combined account for just 2.4% of the total Android ecosystem; Gingerbread and Froyo accounting for almost 86% collectively. Perhaps the landscape will change with the new Tegra 3 powered tablets coming in soon?
