Joseph Tamea
By Suzanne Choney
Joseph Tame was as upset as many Apple fans and followers around the world to hear that Steve Jobs had resigned as CEO of the company. The Tokyo-based social media consultant and new media producer wanted to honor Jobs, so he took a different "route" to do so: On Saturday, he ran the equivalent of a half-marathon, about 13 miles, in a route shaped as Apple's corporate logo.a
"Having a iPhone really has changed my life here in Tokyo," he says on his website. "It means I can go anywhere without getting lost, I have all my data with me at all times, I’m potentially in touch with thousands of friends and family members around the world at all times, and I have access to any information I might need to do what I need to do."a
While he knows this would "make a big difference back home in the UK, here in Japan it’s like a lifeline (even more so now it can warn me when an earthquake is about to hit)." (Tame's referring to an app for Japan that will be part of of Apple's mobile operating system update this fall.)a
He also has the RunKeeper app on the iPhone, which employs the phone's built-in GPS to track details of the run — including the route, as well as distance, pace, calories burned, heart rate — then sync the data to RunKeeper's website.a
"Oh, it also means I can broadcast marathons, and paint pretty pictures on the roads with GPS," he said.a
It's for this that I’d like to personally show my appreciation to Steve for his vision and leadership, which has made a direct positive impact upon my life. His work has also served to revolutionise the mobile phone industry, something that was desperately needed here more than anywhere. I’d like to wish Steve all the best, and hope that his health improves fast now he’s able to focus more on getting well again.a
It was good Tame chose the corporate logo to base his course on, and not the corporate street address in Cupertino: 1 Infinite Loop. That would have been quite a run.a
