Rumor: Some iCloud features to be free for Lion users

aaaaaAfter months of speculation, Apple had confirmed it would introduce a new service called iCloud, although official details on it are still scarce. We are only a short few hours away before Apple ‘reveals’ it all, but that hasn’t stopped the rumor mills from churning, though.

aaaaaAccording to AppleInsider, who cites unnamed sources, Apple may offer some features of the iCloud service for free to users who upgrade to the much awaited MAC OS X Lion operating system. It is not clear if the free features would include the much touted music streaming service, although the report speculates it will be a paid feature regardless.

aaaaaiCloud is supposed to be the new replacement for Apple’s unpopular MobileMe package which runs users a $99 bill per year. Lion users are expected to receive the cloud services for free, along with discounts on updates.

aaaaa“That price tag may remain for users who do not make the upgrade to Lion, or for Windows users. But it is expected that the cloud services will become free to Mac users who run the latest version of Mac OS X.”

aaaaaApple’s WWDC conference begins at 10am PST, that’s 10pm for UAE and 9PM for Saudi.

aaaaaWhile we are topic, Apple has lifted the wraps of the iCloud logo as banners go up in preparation for the event.
