Creative announces multi-core Sound Core3D audio processor

aaaaaCreative today announced the next line-up of sound processor called the Sound Core3D. It’s a multi-core sound and voice processor “with high-quality analog playback and recording and low power consumption, all highly integrated in a low-cost solution.”  The processor will be available in two configurations: An HD audio configuration for PC products and an embedded configuration for consumer electronic products.

aaaaa“We designed a sound and voice processor that will enable our OEM partners to deliver the highest quality Sound Blaster audio ever available for a motherboard while also bringing a new level of quality to sound and voice processing to consumer electronics products.  With Sound Core3D we deliver a versatile chip that can deliver the highest performance voice processing and audio playback from a single chip,” said Steve Erickson, VP and GM of audio and video products at Creative Labs, Inc.  “This expands our opportunities with OEM partners, who can implement Sound Core3D in their own products to achieve the clearest possible communications and phenomenal-sounding audio playback.”

aaaaaAt the recently held launch event, Creative demonstrated the first product to feature the new sound processor. The Sound Blaster Recon3D will be an external sound card supporting hardware accelerated THX TruStudio Pro and Dolby Digital technologies powered by the Core3D audio processor. The sound card will also introduce an entirely new feature called Scout Mode, which will “allow you to hear your enemies from further away, giving you a distinct tactical advantage in combat.” Creative did not stick a price tag on it yet, though it is speculated to cost around $150.
