Oracle® Database 11g Running on Oracle’s SPARC Enterprise M9000 Server Sets World Record TPC-H Three Terabyte Non-Clustered Benchmark Result

Redwood Shores, Calif. â€" March 23, 2011 News Facts Building on its commitment to providing hardware and software engineered to work together to optimize performance and efficiency, Oracle today announced a new world record non-clustered TPC-H 3TB benchmark result demonstrating the superior scalability of !-- .http://www.oracle.com/us/products/database/index.htm. -- http://www.oracle.com/us/products/database/index.htm" Oracle® Database 11g Release 2 running on !-- .http://www.oracle.com/us/products/servers-storage/servers/sparc-enterprise/031587.htm. -- http://www.oracle.com/us/products/servers-storage/servers/sparc-enterprise/031587.htm" Oracle’s SPARC Enterprise M9000 server (1). This result sets a new record delivering nearly 2 times more performance than the previous best score (2), already owned by Oracle. !-- .http://www.oracle.com/us/products/servers-storage/servers/sparc-enterprise/031587.htm. -- http://www.oracle.com/us/products/servers-storage/servers/sparc-enterprise/031587.htm" Oracle’s SPARC Enterprise M9000 server a name="P8_784" , part of the !-- .http://us.lrd.yahoo.com/SIG=12qobjsml/**http%3A/www.oracle.com/us/products/servers-storage/servers/sparc-enterprise/index.html. -- http://us.lrd.yahoo.com/SIG=12qobjsml/**http%3A/www.oracle.com/us/products/servers-storage/servers/sparc-enterprise/index.html" SPARC Enterprise Server Family , is Oracle's highest performance enterprise server. Benchmark Details Running on a SPARC Enterprise M9000 server, equipped with 64 SPARC64 VII+ 3.0 GHz processors, and Sun Storage 6180 arrays, Oracle Database 11g Release 2 with !-- .http://www.oracle.com/solaris. -- http://www.oracle.com/solaris" Oracle Solaris achieved a world record TPC-H 3 TB non-clustered performance result of 386,478 QphH@3000GB with a price of $19.25/QphH@3000GB. This result demonstrates that Oracle Database 11g Release 2 running on the SPARC Enterprise M9000 server was 2.4 times faster than the IBM Power 595 system(3) and loaded the entire database 3.3 times faster than the above system while maintaining the highest level of data protection at a lower cost per transaction(3). The benchmark underscores the ability of SPARC Enterprise M-series servers to deliver near-linear scalability and handle the increasingly large databases required of decision support and data warehousing systems. Neither IBM nor HP matched this level of performance in the 3TB scale factor category using a single system, further highlighting the performance capabilities of multi-processor SPARC systems in the most demanding enterprise application environments. Supporting Quote “This result demonstrates the outstanding performance and scalability of the SPARC Enterprise M9000 platform,” said Juan Loaiza, senior vice president, Systems Technology, Oracle. “Overall, Oracle has delivered a remarkable portfolio of benchmark results showcasing our continued efforts to create an industry standard for performance, scalability and price/performance.” Supporting Resources
